Australia: Prudential Regulator publishes FAQs on loan repayment deferrals and residential mortgage lending

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released a set of FAQs on its expectations for regulated deposit-taking institutions during the period of disruption due to COVID-19.

The FAQs cover the regulatory capital approach for loan repayment deferrals. The page also clarifies APRA’s guidance for serviceability assessments in Prudential Practice Guide APG 223 – Residential Mortgage Lending.

Similar to APRA, in Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions has a dedicated FAQs page on its measures to address issues stemming from COVID-19.

The same is also true for the UK’s Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).  Details of the PRA’s Q&A on how regulated institutions can use liquidity and capital buffers during this extraordinary period can be accessed here.
